London Islamic School Wins Nida Awards

Two Teachers have won National Awards at the Creativity and Innovation Awards 2017 organised by the Nida Trust at a Gala Dinner held at the prestigious Hilton London Metropole in Edgware Road on Saturday the 22nd April 2017.

Mohammed Yaser, Head of Citizenship won the Citizenship Award for the outstanding work he has done at the school in teaching and enhancing the curriculum where he built formal partnerships with organisations such as Tfl, MADE UK, Ilm2Amal, Tower Hamlets Prevent Team, local synagogues and churches, Clean Up UK, Whitechapel Mission, homeless shelters, local old people’s homes amongst many to enrich the learning of pupils within the curriculum to make it one which equips them with knowledge and followed through with action. Students have taken part in high profile campaigns from Dragons Den pitches at Tfl head Office to obtain funding for active travel initiatives to meeting the Prime minister as part of a Global against Hunger campaign.

Shahid Ahmed, Head of Maths and Numeracy Coordinator won the Numeracy Award for his outstanding teaching, bookmarking, assessment, behaviour management and innovative methods of using virtual learning environments (VLE) which have resulted in students achieving well above their expected GCSE grades with numbers of students completing GCSE Maths and GCSE Further Maths with high grades including a number of A*-A grades and one student achieving an ‘A’ grade in A-Level Maths while still a tender secondary age of 16.

Both Teachers were also recognised for going beyond the call of duty within their subject specialisms working on the personal development of students by initiating various projects within the school to build character, morals, manners and leadership skills amongst many.
